Studio design and pre-press
Design, Artworking and Bureau Service
Our Studio understand print. That’s important, because artwork needs to work in practice and not just look good on screen. We know what’s involved in the process, what will work and what won’t.
That’s not just true of complex print and finishing options. Items like leaflets and newsletters need technical preparation too, and we undertake critical production processes like the imposition of pages, and understand the importance of details like high quality imagery and colour profiles. So you can be confident, whatever we are producing for you, it will do the job you need it to.
For more information on how to submit your artwork, please see our Artwork page and download the checklist.
Proofing and checking
Proof to Press – confidence in the commitment
Proofing is one of the most important steps in the print production process. Today, workflows have become increasingly digital and proofing technologies have evolved, so the process has become simpler—but no less important.
Proofs are a prototype of the final product and they assure us all of the expected outcome of a project. As such we insist on providing proofs for all work we undertake. Whether it’s a calibrated colour printed representation of the artwork for litho printing, digitally printed sample or flight checked PDF document, it’s vital to the process.
As ISO certified printers we treat these proofs as blueprints for a successful job and include them in our checking routines throughout the production cycle – There’s no better way to guarantee success.

Litho printing
Top quality Litho – high volume, ‘smart’ colour printing.
‘Litho’ is the process of choice for many print projects, and no-one is better prepared to deliver it than us. With infinite colour options and a vast array of finishing possibilities, our lithographic print services promise perfect print through precise registration, attention to detail, extraordinary accuracy and a massive variety of paper and board options.
Highly cost effective for medium and large quantities, our state of the art Heidelberg six colour press is flexible and fast, printing in four process colours, plus two special colours and coater.
Quick and efficient, with rapid turnaround times, the litho press is super smart, with sophisticated closed-loop colour control technology, delivering colour consistency and accuracy throughout the print run.
Digital printing
The digital print experts – when deadlines are tight but you don’t want to compromise on quality, choose our digital print service.
We have state of the art digital presses providing an unrivalled range of benefits. Our latest addition from market leaders Xerox, offers you quick turnaround, small quantity print runs at a competitive price. With it, we can print on a wide range of materials including pearlescent, metallic or textured stocks, on sizes up to SRA3 and weights from 60gsm to 350gsm.
Our reel fed Xeikon press is uniquely placed to produce work larger and longer. Printing both sides of a sheet simultaneously, the Xeikon can handle complex pocket folders, gate fold and concertina fold brochures, posters and banners and much more. With a reel width of 500mm printing up to 6 metres long, this press is unbeaten on flexibility.
Both presses have the ability to produce high levels of personalisation. By using variable data techniques, changing unique imagery and text to each printed item, allows the opportunity to produce targeted direct marketing solutions. Every copy produced can be tailored to each of your individual customers to really make an impact.
The possibilities are endless – but the quality remains.
Print Finishing
Print is never complete until it’s finished and the art of ‘print finishing’ is one of our specialities.
Finishing often combines both mechanical and hands-on processes, and can involve folding, guillotining and stitching. It can also take in specialist processes such as laminating and varnishing. Accuracy is everything, and it’s a skill we are proud to possess.
Creating the right shapes – if you need a special shape for your print, we can help. We have a selection of cutter formes already prepared and using them could save you hundreds of pounds. Alternatively, we can create one especially for you.
Direct Mail – fulfilment and call off
Direct Marketing – if your requirements are more complex, we also offer a meticulous ‘pick and pack’ service.
This ensures any number of different items can be stored, selected, hand collated and packed with your print, then distributed from our warehouse, directly to your clients. Whether your requirement is for a single item or multiple items, we can organise and deliver your project effectively, without any fuss.
What’s more, with mailing accounts at all the major distribution companies, we can also achieve great savings on the cost of your distribution. Whatever your distribution brief, we‘ll make it happen.
Fulfilling your needs – many of our clients have realised that they can make greater savings by buying their print in bulk. This is fine if they have the space to store larger quantities of print, but few offices have that luxury. At Wood Richardson we have the facility to store your bulk print and deliver when and where it is required.
